FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How long have you been paper piecing, and how did you get started?
AnsI’ve been quilting for 25 years and began paper piecing about a year into my quilting journey, making it 24 years of paper piecing experience. It quickly became a specialty of mine, and I’ve enjoyed it ever since!
Q2. What inspired you to choose batiks over other fabrics like Kona Solids?
I prefer batiks because of the rich movement and texture they add to my quilts. Solids often feel flat to me, and batiks provide more depth and interest. They also lay flatter, reducing bulk in seams and offering more precise block construction. Batiks have become my go-to for a truly dynamic and accurate quilt.
Q3. What’s your process for selecting batiks when shopping for fabric?
My shop is stocked with half batiks, so I always have plenty of options. When I’m converting from Kona Solids, I cut apart the color swatches in the pattern and match them to the closest batik fabric I can find. I always aim to stay true to the colors chosen by the designer, especially for patterns like those from Legit Kits.
